Famous Yoga Teacher likes painting she inspired!

I wrote a short to Sadie Nardini – the well-known Yoga teacher about she inspiring one of the paintings that I did back in June (check below) and she promptly replied the following:

Sept 17th “Fall”

Finally I’m back to painting and doing more practice. I had reached the point of practicing 4 days a week for 45-60 minutes and then……I reached a plateau. I couldn’t motivate myself to move into the poses or even do any art for that matter. My eldest son came to visit and was enthusiastic to see this new series and after much discussion I am inspired once again. I just completed one this morning that I am sharing with you here. Again it is of a slightly different style. I wanted to show some depth and added texture. Namaste.

Aug 29th Practice “off the mat” decade after decade

When I think of my practice I realize that everything was a practice & so it has been through my 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and now in my 50’s. My practice did not consist of retreats but rather dealing with my daily life, dealing with kids, husband, jobs & studies. I constantly asked questions; how do I relate to my children? strangers? How do I spend my free time? How is God in my life? Through all this I feel calmer and more at peace with life’s uncertainties & with the certainty that things always change. It has opened up new horizons & I am grateful for all the insight it has provided thus far in my life.

Aug. 26th Embracing Imperfection

You realize that one is ever-changing; but there are times in one’s life when these changes are more stark. Since doing my yoga practice I have calmed my anxieties and am in a better disposition. As I practice & contemplate I realize that the strongest feeling is to experience life as it changes. As I sit to reflect, I recognize that even the easiest posture can create suffering or for that matter the easiest art technique create the most clarity. These are micro-opportunities to let-go physically & mentally, allowing life to unfold.

Aug 19th Layering (not just about clothing)

We consist of many layers. We need to pay more heed to what is happening deep down as it usually is reflected on our surface layer (our body). When we stretch and bend the body causes us to breathe deeper and calmer. Remember to calm down breathe OUT (think how good it feels to sigh).

I have been getting better at doing yoga practice and now am able to do at least 3 days a week. The weather is too hot some days to actually do the poses as I don’t have AC in the house. I also am finding it difficult to motivate myself to paint especially in the heat. I find refuge at the library where I sit, read, write some notes and refresh myself. Here are some images of paintings that are starting to change in style again!

I can't even do this Crow Pose but hubby can!

This is almost cartoon like.
